Sharp Art Names Calligraphy since 2006

The artist is a full time orchestra director in Texas who began drawing students' names for their music folders in 2006. Wanting to make each name unique, she began combining elements of calligraphy, nature, whimsy and personal interests into each name art she drew. The first drawings were in black ink on notebook paper, quickly penned during her 30 minute lunch time each day. With more and more student requests she switched (sensibly) to plain white paper. At the end of term a student brought in a gift of a set of colored Sharpie markers and a box of map pencils. The artist began putting them to good use, and soon had orders from over 40 students for a colorful personalized name card. Since then she has expanded her art to include birthday, holiday and occasion cards, greetings, gift tags, letterhead, and cover art for program booklets. Drawing is only a hobby but keeps the artist busy and happy in her free time.

All art featured in these galleries are done in Sharpie markers, map pencils and Prismacolor markers, done on either plain white computer paper, plain white card stock or white matting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Woodworking came about because she received a lathe as a gift for Christmas one year, and finally started learning how to turn wood, tru-stone and acrylics. Lots of what goes on is experimentation that turned out well. (Get it? TURNED out!?) Over time she learned more and practiced more, and realized she needed to sell some things in order to support her hobby. Gradually working with a broader range of materials, sizes of wood and equipment has led to some pretty fun results and interesting creations.
