Handmade pens and pencils

Hand turned pens and pencils make lovely gift sets. All items are turned on my lathe using acrylics and both natural and treated woods. Most items shown here already have homes, but you can pick the style/color/matieral you like and I can recreate it for you, or you can design your own. The bottom of this page describes the different types of material used. See the price list for specific pricing information.

Natural Wood Pens

Exposing the beauty of the natural wood grains and patterns is one of the great joys of turning wood pens. From maple burl and other "curly" types of wood to straight grain spruce and zebrawood, the simple beauty of a wood can be highlighted through exposing certain patterns during the turning process. Sometimes a slim shape features the wood best, other times a fancier, more "ergonomic" design brings out a hidden gem inside the wood. Mounted on a complementary pen kit, your pen will be sure to catch the eye.

Treated Wood Pens

Treated woods are often simply synthetically stabilized to prevent blow outs during the turning process. Often times the treatment can include coloring or dyeing of woods to bring out the beauty of the grain. Many woods are available in treated format in a wide variety of colors. Other times a colored wax can be applied to a natural wood to create a color treated finish. Pick your school colors, favorite color, holiday color and pen hardware type to fully customize your new pen or pencil.

Acrylic Pens

Acrylics are soft yet durable and come in a variety of colors, patterns and finishes. Sparkly, patriotic, animal print, solid, lava... you name it, there's probably an acrylic out there that matches what you want made. Custom orders are most welcome! Don't forget you can customize the type of pen hardware you wish to feature. All pens, wood and acrylic, are refillable.
